Plotline for Andun’s tale
In the beginning God made the ancient elf-race, and they made the city of Lomenara, and settled the Isle. Before they came to the middle continent, they lived on the westernmost one, beyond the Sea. There they were pretty much human, but they had troubles of their own. When the sky was darkened, a big war broke out, and many fled to the east and settled the coast. When the sky cleared, they set sail and came to the eastern continent and founded Lomenara and settled the island.
Isle info- big old meteor smashed into the world before the elf-people crossed the Western Sea, and the huge crater filled with water and became the inland sea. There was enough of the original meteor left to make a small island in the center though. Unknown to the ancients, the meteor was composed mostly of a strange material that slowly became a part of the ancients, and gave them supernatural powers. Food grown on the Isle is lethal to humans, due to the mineral in the soil that gets into anything grown there. Thus, men are forbidden to partake of any food there. This taboo has led to some thoughts that the people of the isle are discriminatory against men; that they don’t want men to receive their power, which is not true- in the early days the inhabitants of the isle let a few men eat of the fruits of the isle, to great tragedy.
Then men were made in the east, and they were led by God-picked Prophets, who gave the Word of the Lord to the people. The ancients eventually found these early men, and taught them and incorporated them into their culture. Men never settled the island, which was deemed holy by the Ancients, and there was a big temple there and the Lighthouse, which was a sister tower to the Tower of Elers. In those days angels regularly visited Earth, mostly visiting the Kings of Men and Ancients (there was a King for each of them), regularly meaning maybe once every couple of years. It was one of these that commanded the construction of the Towers, due to the will of God.
And so the land was peaceful for a couple centuries. Then an angel came down and gave ill news: The Fallen One was coming. The Prophets had foreseen this, and preparations had been underway already. The Chief Chancellor of the King of men, however, was secretly in league with the Devil, and had been helping him gain a foothold into this world. The Prince left, and with the help of the prophets concealed his secret city in the mountains. There the prince preserved countless books, records, and artifacts, which he had been gathering in secret.
Then the devil comes, with demons, dragons, all that. The armies of Men and Ancients are destroyed utterly, but the armies of the Lord come down from Heaven and seal the Devil away in the Heart of Sareah’s Peak until the End. During this war, the people of the Isle sent their best over, they were destroyed, and when word reached them of the rout, the enchanters of the Isle cause there to be a great storm surrounding the Isle, protecting it from all outsiders. There, too, is preserved history and such, but not as much as Montaine-aire. There the Lady and Keeper sealed their daughter in the Lighthouse, without the knowing of even the King and Queen of the Isle (not the true King and Queen of Ancients, but more the elite of the priesthood there). They had already sealed Malin away underneath the Tower.
Mr. Chancellor/Faux King saves himself by bargaining his soul with le Diablo so that he don’t get hisself killed. Thus the devil uses him (by making him immortal) to one day spark his diabolical plans. Part of these plans involves the planting of the Blood Vine. This demonic plant is slowly strangling the Tower, and sapping its divine power to summon the Heavens down. This was how the devil was vanquished earlier. The Lighthouse is untouchable, though, so the Chancellor waits until he can destroy that too.
Ancient race flees to other continent fearing annihilation, but some seal themselves away (like WhatshisnameMalin and the L-girl). Most are found and killed but Malin is not (sealed in the capital city Lumina(once named Lomena) (Lomena=named given by prophets meaning “Twilight” or “City of Twilight” foreshadowing its fall; Lumina obviously means “light” so its kindof a slap in the prophets’ faces), and L-girl is on the isle in the middle of the hurricane safe inside of the Lighthouse, where not even the people of the isle know she is there(she’s in a coma like thing, with the same Life-enduring spell that Malin has [total body tattoo thing]).
Prophecy of the one who will bring about the destruction of the world, which most everyone thinks is the Chancellor, but in the end is Andun (he causes the remaking of the world). Age of Prophets turned out a lot of prophecies, but the earliest ones involved the end of the world (ironic) and Malin and L-girl and Andun and the heir. Malin and L-girl are the Keeper and Lady (Keeper of the Tower and Lady of the Lighthouse), they are the twin kids of the last Keeper and Lady, whose two different secret sects were devoted to the protection of these important buildings, but they were killed in the battle that destroyed Lomenara. They sealed their children away for the future with a Life-Prolonging spell, which caused them to magically age waaay slowly, so that in the span of 500 years the two infants, when finally discovered and awoken, are only aged about 10 years.
Before Great Battle the king disowns his son for some reason (son suspects the traitorous intentions of the Chief-Chancellor, and tries to warn father, but he no listen) and the prince leaves the city, never to return (feared dead); thus explains the lack of a king. In reality the prince only left to Montaine-aire, and never reclaimed the throne which was rightfully his. Thus the line of the kings is preserved and there will be a “Return of the King” moment (aww). This is also due to the preservation of a segment of the outer wall of the King’s palace, which is in fact part of a prophecy. This prophecy entails that the House of the King and the line of said King are intertwined- so if the House is destroyed, the King’s line is doomed, and vice versa. But part of the wall miraculously survived, and the prince’s line lives. The Chancellor tried to demolish it, but historians saved it, and so as to not give away his cruel intentions, the Chancellor let it slide.
Andun is the son of two powerful nobles who sent him to school in Lumina, but he is now the apprentice of a master-smith, Malachi, who has taught him a bit of swordplay (emphasis on BIT). Andun has an older brother Philipi, who works in the capital and is friends with the Chancellor.
The city of Lumina was built on the ruins of Lomenara, the old city. Thus explains the Tower of Elers and the Celestial Wall. Both are remnants of the old city, and there are various other ruins as well. It is not uncommon to have a old collapsed pillar in one’s backyard. However, no one knows much about the old civilization for although there are loads of ruins, there are very few records found (most all were taken from the city before its fall, because the prophets were smart and saw it coming. Go figure.) Thus there is a sort of Lost period in between the old age and the current one, in which men learned everything they now know. Its very confusing to scholars like Philipi, which is why he’s very interested in a slab found by Malachi during one of his little illegal mining expeditions (so what? The old man finds some good ore in the middle of the city lol). It contains a sort of Rosetta Stone thing (planted there by the Keeper long ago), which allows Philipi to translate a whole lot and that leads to the finding of Malin in an underground chamber beneath the hall of records. Malin was buried as an infant, but is found as a youth, about Andun’s age (13-14). He remembers nadda, despite the chancellors “encouragement”; The Chancellor is to be portrayed in the best light possible; we don’t find out his history till much later, and we want the audience to think he’s a good guy, which in this part of the story, he genuinely is. He regretted his decision almost immediately after he made it, and he’s tried to make up for it by giving his subjects the best.
When Malin is found, he is given a place to live in the Palace. There the Chancellor, remembering his old duty, is forced to try to extract any knowledge of the Prince’s whereabouts, but to no avail. Malin remembers nothing (he was an infant for crying out loud). It is discovered that Malin possesses strange powers (due to his ancient lineage), and he is studied for it. He and Andun become best friends, and do everything together.
Philipi comes upon the Chancellor one day when he is communing with the Devil, though, and find out his plan to kill Malin. So, he arranges for their escape. At midnight he wakes Andun up, and they go to the palace all stealthy-ninja like. There are fresh horses and supplies waiting for them, but they sneak into the palace, and wake up malin. After several near being captured scenes, they are discovered and the guards are called. Insert big dramatic chase scene here. Philipi manages to get Andun and Malin off and running to the main gate of the city (in between the gap of the mountains), but is captured. He is “altered”, and becomes evil after this. Queue “Heartbreaker” song.
Meanwhile, Andun and Malin escape! They find a fisherman’s house and steal a boat. The guards try to catch them, but A&M sail towards the storm. Malin’s power sees them safely through it, however they both are found unconscious on the shore of the Isle.
When they are found by some shore-dwellers, they are taken to the great city of Sulima, the only true city on the island, due to its size. The rest of the isle is composed of smaller towns and settlements. They are put up in the hospital, and everyone is alarmed/intrigued/frightened etc by these outsiders’ entry. Even the King and Queen come to see them. After doctors proclaim them in no serious harm, the scholars come to study the strange marks on Malin. The Queen, who possesses greater magic than the King, perceives a great enchantment about Malin, but cannot sense what it is. She recognizes this magic though; she has sensed it within the Lighthouse, which has been abandoned, yet preserved, for ages. The keepers of ancient lore are summoned, and are sent to their great library to find any information on such strange magic.
Andun and Malin eventually wake up, and are supremely bewildered to find themselves in a quite civilized hospital room. They are up and moving about chatting when a nurse walks in and nearly wets herself due to shock at their being awake. This leads to all the doctors/scholars rushing in, asking questions, the usual “who are you” “where’d you come from” bit. They try to answer this, to little success. Then the King and Queen summon them, and they are taken to the throne room. There they are properly interrogated. They tell them that they come from the city of Lumina, through the Storm. K&Q are astonished. The people of the isle are in a kind of a time warp- they know of the world only as it was 500 years ago. They are bewildered when Andun tells of the Chancellor, and of the Blood Vine. This is grievous news; the K&Q know of the Chancellor’s betrayal, and of the purpose of the Blood Vine. What frightens them is the description of the Vine: it is now near the pinnacle of the Tower, and a pale rose color. When the Blood Vine becomes blood red, the Tower will be dissolved entirely, and its power quenched forever. However, they say nothing of their foreboding to Andun and Malin, who are allowed to explore the city under the care of Soala, an apprentice of the Loremaster’s Guild, who is not experienced enough to help with the research of malin’s enchantment. Explanation of the whole food situation.
The trio gets along famously, but when they come to the Lighthouse, Malin is stuck with a strange sensation. His marks resonate to him, as if in accordance with another. The Lighthouse causes an extremely minor earthquake. The Lady of the Lighthouse is becoming awakened.
That night, Andun convinces Malin to come exploring with him. Malin thinks “okay, we’re just gonna go around the city, scout it out”. Andun, however, decides they’re gonna go explore the Lighthouse instead.
The Gate of the Lighthouse is covered with vines, but andun cuts them down. The doors are rusty, but together they force them open (also due to malin’s power, which they don’t know about yet). Inside is a great chamber, with beautiful arches and statues. The Lighthouse itself is enormous, and very high. It is the highest point on the island, even higher than the mountain on it. It used to be the headquarters of the Priesthood (that no longer exists), and has many rooms and staircases. It has of late become infested with monsters and golems borne of the magical substances of the earth. Andun and Malin slash, hack, and blast their way through and up the tower, to the highest room. Inside is a vast crystal, untarnished with age. They see a statue of a girl in the room, but when Malin touches her, her marks suddenly blaze bright pink, and she awakens. She swoons, and Andun and Malin bring her down and out of the place. When they are out of there, they see a great flash of light from the Lighthouse. It darkens as soon as it lit, but it has been rekindled.
